We provide comprehensive programme and project management support to large scale major transformation programmes in diverse organisations and geographies. Using approved methodologies we deliver robust programme and project management providing clear processes, sound governance structures and rigorous reporting.
Our team of experienced project managers can help you design and implement complex programmes. Our approach involves active stakeholder management and leadership development to ensure that the programme or project is delivered collaboratively.
The following services can be commissioned individually or combined into a bespoke package to meet the specific needs and challenges of your organisation.
Programme management is the co-ordinated management of related projects that together achieve a beneficial change of a strategic nature for an organisation.
Our team of experienced programme directors and programme managers bring together experience from leading management consultancies, the NHS and Local Authorities. We have brought that wealth of experience into one internal NHS service, combining best practice in programme, project and change management with an understanding of the specific challenges of transformational change in health and social care.
We can offer full lifecycle programme management managing project interdependencies. Our management approach offers a strong focus on benefits management to ensure that your programme will deliver the expected benefits to patients, communities and stakeholders.
We can also provide a Programme Management Office (PMO) function to support programme planning, reporting and control that provides coordinated oversight, assurance and support for your existing projects.
This work is underpinned by the team’s knowledge of MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) and P30 (Programme, Portfolio and Project Offices) methodologies. We use this knowledge to co-design a governance framework tailored to the size and scope of your programme, ensuring structures for decision making and stakeholder engagement are in place and operating effectively.
Our team of project managers bring together a range of experience from the NHS, Local Authorities, private and voluntary sectors, enabling us to build the right team for your project requirements.
We have a strong track record of delivering projects within time, cost and quality constraints and can offer full project lifecycle support including:
• Scoping and requirements definition
• Business case development
• Risk and issue management
• Performance monitoring and reporting
• Quality management and assurance
• Benefits planning and realisation
• Impact evaluation
Our work is underpinned by the team’s knowledge of PRINCE 2 and AMP methodologies. Our approach is results focussed and hands on and will assist in all aspects of project delivery.
The Transformation Unit team are experts in providing robust support for a variety of programmes. We have an in-depth knowledge of NHS governance and assurance processes and are able to support the initial implementation and long term running of these processes.
Our experienced team are dedicated to providing full project support and can respond to immediate and confidential work in a highly organised and professional manner. Many of our clients have praised the team’s ability and role as high level facilitators. We pride ourselves on our consistent and strategic approach to project support.
Effective leaders and stakeholders are essential to the successful planning and execution of all programmes. During the lifecycle of a programme, they are a valuable source of knowledge and insight making their participation and involvement crucial.
Our approach is to work with leaders at all stages in their career, to develop their capacity to influence change within their organisation, increase their confidence and resilience as leaders and to balance the complex range of responsibilities demanded of them.
Doing this well ensures that your organisation has:
- Action-oriented, self-aware leaders who will improve organisational performance and efficiency
- More committed staff and managers, who are more likely to take actions that make a real difference
- Retention of more motivated and engaged people – inspired by their leaders to excel
- Managers who are better able to articulate goals and influence others to help achieve success that can be measured
Our team has considerable experience and skills gathered from multiple sectors and we use these to build internal capability and development of organisations through structured competency training and support throughout the programme cycle.
Our collaborative coaching approach ensures all of our work has a ‘knowledge transfer’ element embedded within it. We aim to ensure staff levels of confidence and capability increase so that change is sustained following transfer to business as usual.
Programme Assurance and Advice
Good programme assurance means robust processes, sound governance structures and rigorous reporting. Our collaborative approach with clients not only ensures that programmes are delivered on time and in scope, but also that the methodology and processes are embedded and sustained across the organisation.
We ensure risk management is embedded in these processes and programme milestones and assurance assessments are passed.
Independent Clinical Review
Before commissioners consider seeking formal clinical assurance on proposals it is prudent to seek preliminary external assurance. A reference panel, made up of our trusted clinical affiliates, can review your proposal. Acting as a ‘critical friend’, we will provide clinical advice to support decision making, ensuring your proposals are safe and sustainable.
Advice can be given on the impact of the proposed clinical model on the wider health system and co-dependent services to assess if there might be unintended consequences due to the proposed service change.
The benefits of using our clinical review panel are:
- We are a neutral party with some personal distance from the proposals
- We have no pre-disposed view to support any particular option
- We can identify pitfalls, quantify their potential impact and suggest mitigating actions
- We can provide informed advice based on our experience and knowledge of other reconfiguration projects
Stakeholder Engagement and Management
We place stakeholder engagement and management at the heart of all commissions, no matter how large or small the project. Our approach is inclusive and collaborative. We work with clients to identify the key stakeholders and stakeholder groups, developing an appropriate stakeholder management and engagement plan and facilitating the stakeholder engagement process to enable a culture of empowerment throughout the process
We underpin our larger projects with governance where necessary, which is reviewed regularly, to ensure that all stakeholders can input to and influence the project. Our governance approach also allows any issues, or successes, to be communicated and managed through the appropriate channels to ensure minimal delays to any project.
We recommend that, where appropriate, the patient or service user voice is heard in all projects. We can assist with the development of Patient and Service User engagement mechanisms, utilising flexible tools and techniques to ensure that involvement is meaningful and is reflected in your governance structures.
Our track record for project success is testament to our successful engagement approach.
