Every year at the TU we choose a charity who we dedicate all our fundraising activity and donations to.
This year our chosen charity was the Booth Centre, a Manchester based organisation which provides a day centre for homeless people in the city including access to advice, support and activities to get involved in.
We’ve fundraised for the charity throughout 2018 by hosting and taking part in a range of events including bake offs, pub quizzes, the Great Manchester Run, the NHS Triathlon and the Booth Centre’s Manchester Sleepout.
We’re delighted that through these activities and events we’ve raised £2,435 for the charity, alongside other donations including clothing, men’s toiletries and food.
Alex Heritage, our Chief Executive, said: “Our core purpose is to support positive change within the NHS. However, as an organisation we also like to support a specific charity to share skills and resources. This year we have raised £2,457 which will go directly to the work the Booth Centre are doing here in Manchester.
“More importantly this year we have raised greater awareness of rough sleeping and homelessness and will continue to champion these areas within our day to day work.”
It’s been a rewarding year for our team gathering donations, taking part in these various events and working alongside the Booth Centre.
For 2019, we have decided that the Pankhurst Trust will be our next chosen charity, an organisation which was formed in 2014 as a merger between The Pankhurst Trust and Manchester Women’s Aid, Manchester’s largest specialist provider of domestic abuse service.
We look forward to another year of fundraising for another great charity.
